A Bargain?

Created by Nigel 5 years ago

Well, another day of general "helping" out and clearing up at Balcombe Road.

This time it was the garage that was the target. There was quite a lot of stuff in there mostly that the previous elderly people had left. The first item to go was a large chair, this went straight into the skip that you always seemed to have handy outside front gate.

Then we started to wonder what the heck we were going to do with the very large bench mounted electric saw (or something like that!)

Well,as luck would have it,possibly attracted by the skip activity along came shall we call them, 2 "Gentlemen of the road" They strolled down the drive and asked if there was anything of interest we were getting rid of. We showed them the saw and they had a good old look at it and said they would take it.

The next obvious question from our part was ,well how much will you give us for it?

They said we havnt got any money but would you accept 5 bags of fresh horse manure instead!! Jay said well I suppose so ,but as a bit of added fun said how many bags would you give me for the wife? Michelle had just come out to see what was going on. I think one of them said 6 bags!!!

A deal was done (for the saw)and we thought good they will go now. But true to form they wanted to offer a price for tarmacking the drive! The price given would place Jay under "no obsigation" Yes we know that is not quite how it is said but it gave us a good few laughs for years to come.

Michelle asked when they could carry out the work and proceeded to tell them the days that there was no one at home etc. We quietly suggested to her that this may be just a little too much info to give away. We told them we would think about it and they luckily went off .no doubt to trade a few more bags of manure.

A little while later someone came along and asked about the chair in the skip.We said "yours for a tenner" and they gave Jay a tenner and took it.

So a good day and unusually nothing broken and a profit made.

Very nearly had 6 bags of manure instead of a wife though!!

Love you always Jayboy  "Pops" xxxx
