D.I.Y The Allaway way..

Hi Jayboy

Today I think a couple of stories from the seemingly never ending "little jobs" that needed attending to at the Balcombe Road house.

One evening you had apparently come home shall we say a little "tired" and fed up with being nagged, had set about fitting some lino into the bathroom. It is anybody's guess how and what with you had cut it, but the fit was a very long way from being perfect!

So having then been nagged to do something about it, you purchased some good quality floor covering in squares ,regrettably they were not self adhesive, so an industrial size pot of glue was also purchased.

You called me and said "Pops" what do you reckon on helping me fit these ,it cannot be difficult can it?,I of course pretended it was child's play and had done this loads of times(having never done it!!) So a date was set for the fixing and you also press ganged Sarah into coming along to do some painting in the porch downstairs.

We turned up as planned and the first thing was Sarah said, Jay, if any spiders come along while I am painting please come down and move them! Ok you said.

So into the bathroom we went, laid out the tiles and set about trying to match them ,make them fit etc etc. It actually went quite well surprisingly and we had almost finished when for some reason you moved suddenly backwards and kicked the pot of glue over and as the pot was just in the bathroom doorway it spilt all over the new deep pile landing carpet! Whoops ,what do I do now I remember you saying.
Well, you had a flash of brilliance (not) went to the airing cupboard and collected a handful of towels ,these were also brand new and proceeded to mop up the glue with them!!

Whilst in the middle of all this mayhem Sarah called up and said, "Jay spider" not wanting to let on at that stage there was a bit of a crisis you went downstairs and moved the spider!!
well glue mopped up ,final tiles laid ,towels in washing machine (Michelle was out fourtunately) all peaceful once more.

I dont think she ever knew as all the glue must have washed out!!

Then you decided that a final D.I.Y job for the day was to fit a new front door bell. Most people would have called it a day ,but oh no not you Jayboy.

New doorbell fitted, you called us out to have a look and we said it looked truly wonderful. You then said "I am going to teach the old one a lesson" Taking a massive chisel you struck the old doorbell a massive blow and sure enough off it came ,rather unfortunately the force you used was so great that the chisel followed through and took the new doorbell with it !! Oh my goodness we all had tears in our eyes from laughing so much, including you.

That was enough D.I.Y for that day, time for a cuppa and to reflect......

More D.I.Y stories to come .........

Love you Jayboy "Pops" xx
